A Prayer Seeking God for His True Light

Feb. 11, 2009

At the end of last year, the Holy Spirit directed me to put together the attached prayer from the Word of God. Those of us who attend Craighouse have been praying it regularly on behalf of ourselves, our families, and our nations.

Now I am being directed to send it on to you. I encourage you to join with us in praying this prayer and in sending it on "as is" to other believers in jesus Christ and/or to those you know are seeking the one, true and living God. I also give you permission to copy this prayer to give to others.

I believe this is critical at this point in time as darkness and death come to blanket our nation.

Thanks,
Dr. Mary Craig

Heavenly Father,

Your Word declares that "in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved [hovered] upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." (Genesis 1.1-3)

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness: and the darkness comprehended it not." (John 1.1-5) John was sent by God to bear witness of the Light. John was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. "That was the true Light, which lights every one that comes into the world." (John 1.8)

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and human beings loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But the one that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (John 3.19-21)

Lord God, You speak in Job 10.22 of a land of darkness and the shadow of death, a land of darkness [obscurity], as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness. Yet You uncover the deep things out of darkness and bring the shadow of death to light. You increase the nations and destroy them. You enlarge the nations and straiten them. You take away understanding [heart] of the chief or rulers of the people of the earth, and cause them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. They grope in the dark without light and You make them to stagger like drunken ones. (Job 12.22-25)

Satan is the first born of death and king of terrors. (Job 17.13) As to the wicked, the light of the wicked indeed goes out and the flame of his fire does not shine. The light is dark in his tent, and his lamp beside him is put out…He is driven from light into darkness and chased out of this world. (Job 18.5, 18)

Nevertheless, The Almighty shall be our defense and we shall have plenty of silver. We shall have our delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up our faces unto God. We shall make our prayer unto Him, and He shall hear us, and we shall pay our vows. We shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto us: and the light shall shine upon our ways. You save the humble person. (Job 22.25-29)

There are those who rebel against the light. They do not know its ways nor abide in its paths…the morning is the same to them as the shadow of death; they are in the terrors of the shadow of death. (Job 24.13) There is a boundary of light and darkness. (Job 26.10) What is hidden, You, God, bring forth to light. (Job 28.11) Watch over us, O LORD, and let Your lamp shine upon our heads that by Your light we might walk through darkness. (Job 29.3) Let us be enlightened with the light of life. Let us say, we have sinned and perverted what was right and it did not profit us. Scatter Your light upon us and our situation. Cause the light of Your cloud to shine. (Job 33.27-30; 37.15)

Lord God, in Job 38 You tell us that the light of the wicked is withheld. The upraised arm is broken. Darkness has a territory and a path to its home. There is a way to the dwelling of light. LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. (Ps 4.6) You will light our lamps. The LORD our God will enlighten our darkness. (Psalm 18.28)

The LORD is our light and our salvation. (Ps 27.1) In Your light we see light. (Ps 36.9) We need light to return to the eyes. (Ps 38.10) Send out Your light and Your truth. Ps 43.3) Let was walk before You in the light of the living. (Ps 56.13) Let us walk in the light of Your countenance. (Ps 89.15) Let us sow light and light is sown for the righteous. (Ps 97.11)

You cover Yourself with light as a garment. (Ps 104.2) Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness. You are gracious, full of compassion, and righteous. (Ps 112) You have given us light. Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. (Ps 118.27) Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. (Ps 119.105) The entrance of Your Words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. (Ps 119.130)

"If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yes, the darkness hides not from You; but the night shines as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to You. For You have possessed my reins: You have covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Your works; and that my soul knows right well." (Psalm 139.11-14) The light of the eyes rejoices the heart: and a good report makes the bones healthy. (Proverbs 15.30)

O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the LORD. (Is 2.5) Woe unto those that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Is 5.20) Nevertheless, the people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined. (Is 9.2) The Light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body; and they shall be as when a standard bearer faints. (Is 10.17, 18)

Of Jesus, You have said: I the LORD have called you in righteousness; and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles, to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. (Is 42.6, 7)

You, shall go forth as a mighty one, and stir up jealousy like a man of war. You shall cry, yes, roar, and prevail against your enemies. You say, "I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods." (Is 42.16, 17)

You form the light and create darkness. You make peace, and create evil. You the LORD do all these things. (Is 45.7) Grant us grace to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke. Let us deal our bread to the hungry, and bring the poor that are cast out to our house and when we see the naked, to cover him and hide not ourselves from our own flesh. Then shall our light break forth as the morning, and our health shall spring forth speedily: and our righteousness shall go before us; the glory of the LORD shall be our rear-ward. Then we shall call, and the LORD shall answer. We shall cry, and He shall say, Here I am, if we take away from our midst the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity. If we draw out our soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul, then shall our light rise in obscurity and our darkness [gloominess, misfortune] shall be as the noon day. (Is 58)

Yet You say, Arise, shine; for your light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon you, and his glory shall be seen upon you. And the Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. (Is 60.1-3) You say, The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto you; but the LORD shall be unto you an everlasting light, and your God your glory. (Is 60.19)

Let us hear and not be proud, for the LORD has spoken. "Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness." (Jeremiah 13.15, 16) Let it not be to us the lament of Lamentations, but if it is, hear our cries as of Lamentations.

God, You reveal deep and secret things. You know what is in the darkness, and light dwells with you. (Daniel 2.22) We can say, "Do not rejoice over me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, the LORD will be a light to me. I will bear the indignation of the LORD. Because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light. I will see His righteousness." (Micah 7.8, 9)

Jesus Christ is the light of the world. The one who follows Him shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. (John 8.12) Of us, Jesus said, "You are the light of the world…Let your light so shine before people that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5.14, 16) Let it be so, Holy Father. Jesus said, "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness." (Matthew 6.22, 23) Father, let our eye be good and our whole body be full of light.

Let us be sons of light and not sons of this world. With natural light, we can see and not stumble. But if it is night, we need the light in us. (John 11.9, 10) While we have the light, we are to believe in the light that we may become sons of light. (John 12.36) "The night is far spent; the day is at hand. Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." (Romans 13.12-14)

Let us leave judgment to God. "Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts." (1 Corinthians 4.5) Let the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, shine upon those who sit in darkness. For it is the God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4.4-6)

Let us not be unequally yoked to unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, as God has said, 'I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God and they will be My people.' Therefore, 'Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean. And I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters,' says the LORD Almighty." (2 Corinthians 6.14-18) Grant us grace and separate light from darkness.

We were once darkness, but now are we light in the Lord. Let us walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is all goodness, righteousness, and truth) finding out what is acceptable [pleasing] to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them…All things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. (Ephesians 5.8-13) Therefore, "Awake you who sleep. Arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." (Ephesians 5.14)

You, Holy Father, have qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. You have delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of Your love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1.12-14) We are sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5.5-8)

Jesus Christ has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. (2 Timothy 1.10) We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Your own special people, that we may proclaim the praises of Him who has called us out of darkness into Your marvelous light. (1 Peter 2.9)

God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. Whenever we say we have fellowship with You, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But whenever we walk in the light as You are in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the Blood of Jesus Christ Your Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1.5-7) Darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. The one who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. (1 John 2.8-10)

Let us heed, for a law shall proceed from the LORD, and He will make His judgment to rest for a light of the people. He says, "My righteousness is near; My salvation is gone forth, and Mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon Me, and on Mine arm shall they trust." (Isaiah 51.4, 5)

Let us be mindful, Holy Father, that of the heavenly Jerusalem, You have said, "Her light was like a most precious stone." (Rev. 21.11) The city had no need of the sun or moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. (Revelation 21.23, 24) And there shall be no night there; and they need no lamp, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light: and they shall reign forever and ever. (Revelation 22.5)

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all. Amen. (Revelation 22.21)

We lift this up to You, Holy Father, coming boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and to find grace and favor in a timely way, for ourselves, our families, and our nation.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
